Appeal against dismissal letter

Usually named in your outcome letter.

Be specific. New evidence, procedure not followed, or the sanction being too severe.

For example: the decision overturned, or the sanction reduced.

What happens next

  • Send it within the deadline in your outcome letter, usually five working days.
  • The appeal should be heard by someone not involved in the original decision wherever possible.
  • A tribunal claim for unfair dismissal must normally be started within three months less one day of the dismissal, and appealing does not pause that clock.

This letter rests on Acas Code of Practice on disciplinary and grievance procedures. It is a starting point, not legal advice — change anything that does not fit your situation.
